Welcome to the Spring 2025 semester! As your student embarks on another exciting term at Rutgers University, we would like to provide you with important information regarding housing options for the 2025-2026 academic year. This will help you guide and support your student as they consider their on-campus living arrangements.

Housing Selection Process Overview:

  • Application Period (January 27 – February 11): Students must first apply for Housing Selection to express their interest and secure a housing selection number via the Housing Portal (https://oncampus.rutgers.edu). This step is essential and helps position them for the next stages in the process.  Applying for the Housing Selection is not a binding commitment to living on campus next academic year.
  • Notification (February 12): After applying, students will receive an email containing their housing selection number and seniority points. The selection number is assigned randomly and is crucial in determining their selection order.
  • Specific Housing Selection (February 13 – February 24): Students, armed with their housing selection number, can then apply for specific housing categories such as Apartments, Suites, or Residence Halls. They can apply solo or with a roommate group, with the number of roommates varying by housing type.
    • Apartments: Groups up to 4
    • Suites: Groups up to 6
    • Residence Halls: Groups up to 2 for double rooms
Note: Single residence hall rooms are limited and allocated based on earned credits.
  • Notification of Eligibility: Students will be notified on specific dates whether they are eligible to select housing in their chosen category:
    • February 25: Apartments
    • March 12: Suites
    • March 24: Residence Halls
  • Selection Window: If they qualify, students should promptly log in at their designated date and time to choose their housing. Housing spaces fill quickly, so timeliness is important. Once a decision is made, the Housing Agreement is binding, and changes are limited.

Additional Options and Resources:

For students who do not secure housing during the initial phases, additional opportunities may be available toward the end of the selection process.

Graduate and Family Housing: Graduate and family students follow a different timeline in late March. Current residents will receive instructions via email.

For more information or questions, you and your student are encouraged to visit the Housing Selection website or attend our informative Housing Selection Webinar for Parents and Family on February 5th at 12pm ET.
