Rutgers University offers outstanding support through its Counseling, Alcohol, and Other Drug Assistance Program & Psychiatric Services (CAPS). If your student is dealing with mental health issues or just needs someone to talk to, CAPS is there to help.

How to Get Started

Getting started with CAPS is easy! They can be reached at 848-932-7884. This number is the gateway for your student to set up an assessment, schedule a "Let's Talk" session, or arrange appointments. Your student can also visit their office at 17 Senior Street, College Avenue Campus, New Brunswick, NJ. Services Offered

CAPS is staffed by a dedicated team of professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed counselors, substance use counselors, and case managers. They are ready to help with any mental health issues, whether it's general stress or something more specific to college life.

Crisis Intervention and On-Call Services

If your student is in a crisis or needs urgent help, CAPS has an on-call counselor available during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, excluding University holidays). They can visit 17 Senior Street on the College Avenue Campus or call 848-932-7884. The phone service ensures immediate help is available whenever needed.

When You’re Concerned, Do Something!

If your student is worried about themselves or someone else, Rutgers encourages taking action. The "Do Something!" initiative addresses issues like self-harm, substance abuse, disruptive behavior, and more. Visit dosomething.rutgers.edu for more information.
