If you or someone you know has a high schooler in the family, please check out our new high school summer academies. The Scarlet Horizons Learning Academies at Rutgers (SCHOLAR) initiative is a collection of two-week summer programs for high school students (age 16+) designed to increase their interest in scientific inquiry by exposing them to cutting-edge Rutgers research. The following academies will run between July 8 and 19, 2024:

  • Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain and the Spinal Cord
  • Chemistry & Chemical Biology
  • Cognitive Science & Psychology

Each program focuses on hands-on lab activities to create memorable impressions.

The programs are directed by Rutgers faculty members with active research sponsored by the NIH, NASA, NSF, DoD, DoE, and other agencies, and conducted in their state-of-the-art laboratories. To highlight the broad spectrum of future career opportunities in these fields, we'll take students on-site visits to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and to Rutgers partner organizations connected to each program, such as New York City’s DNA Crime Lab, the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, Bristol-Myers-Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, etc. This is a great opportunity for students to improve their resumes and get a jump start on undergraduate research opportunities, whether they decide to enroll at Rutgers or not. The videos on our website provide more information. The program is open for applications and can be reached at https://scholar.rutgers.edu
